I like this movie. It is from a real story, so it must be full of emotion of the director. The camera used really clear. A series of narrative shots make the story easy to understand and with the flashback. I like the ending, the sweet smiles on everybody's face but smile at different sweet things.
I really liked this short film. The kids were great actors. I thought it was a sweet film and the shots really helped tell the story. It also made me laugh which is a plus.
This the kind of film that I really like, it's the kind of film that anyone can like. Kids are adorable and this film did a great job at capturing that. I thought the acting was done brilliantly and really helped this film excel. The story of Joseph's life was told in a creative way with flashbacks, and I thought that was very cool and done well. I also really enjoyed the music, it worked with the film. The innocence portrayed in the little boys laughing at the end was so adorable and nice, it does a great job at making the audience smile.
You can tell when a director has a connection with the story. such a good film. Gives the audience a strong connection to Joseph. the use of flashbacks was placed perfectly to convey emotion. such a great piece!
I’m always impressed by good acting from children, and this was particularly so with ‘New Boy’. Clearly, there was some excellent direction here. I also loved the camera angles and shallow DOF, which made it easy to empathize with our protagonist.
The structure of this film was very strong as well, I enjoyed how Joseph’s past was juxtaposed against trying to fit into his new environment. Very uplifting.
I really loved this film. I was worried as the film went on that it was going to go the stereotypical route, where the boy and girl bonded, but instead it was the group of boys. The shots were beautiful when we would get flashbacks to Joseph's life. The stories were perfect going back and forth as well. The best part of this short though were the children. They acted very well, and the things they were saying are the exact things I would expect to hear. The ending was also very sweet, and it's always good to end watching a film with a smile on your face. Overall I would say that this was my favorite short throughout the semester.
I enjoyed New Boy. I was worried at the beginning that it would be a stereotypical "bully" movie, but I was pleasantly surprised with the ending. It was nice to see the boys bond, and the story get a happy end, as so often in life things do not go as well. My personal favorite parts of the film were the flashbacks to the boy's previous home. I liked how they were shot, and I thought it added a unique element to the plot. I also thought that the film was brilliantly acted. Usually with child actors, their performances are typically not the greatest, but every kid in this film was good. I thought that was impressive, and really added to the film.

ReplyDeleteNew Boy really got me emotional. I found myself crying at the scenes when Joseph would have flashbacks of his old life. The acting was just great and the little girl was so cute. I loved how she was telling the class that the teacher was a bitch because that’s exactly how some kids today think and talk. I like how the film started out as being really cliché, you know, being mean to the new student and having someone of the opposite sex like them, but I was glad it ended up with the boys bonding. The children were able to act really well in this and that’s what made the film seem so normal. The editing was nicely done and the continuity was right on point. I can proudly point out that I do not believe this film had any flaws. It was just really lovely to watch.
