I really liked this short film. I felt sympathetic towards the plastic bag. I never thought I could feel sorry for an inanimate object like that. I loved the shots and different compositions. The story was also powerful. I just love the fact that the director pulled you in and got you involved in the story. I was interested in finding out what happened in the end and how the bag would end up. I thought the narration was perfect for the story.
This short film was beautifully shot. The statement "I wish you had created me so I could die" is very powerful. I think it has a deeper meaning about the pain of immortality. It almost makes you feel sorry for the bag and start using eco-friendly grocery bags. Overall, I think it was a creative and innovative way to get a political message out.
Gorgeous imagery, the various locations are simply beautiful. The underwater shots in particular are stunning. Great sound design as well. The rustling of the bag, the crashing of waves, the chirping of crickets, all perfectly captured.
Perhaps best of all, the narration in this short is simply fantastic. I can’t imagine it being done any better, the accent is brilliant and excellent in evoking emotion. Very well written.
It’s a remarkable achievement that a story about a plastic bag could be as moving as this.
The big thing about this film, that stuck out to me was the cinematography. It must have taken a really long time to get some of the shots of the bag floating in the wind, as the camera was following it, that was very impressive. I enjoyed the narrative, it was very creative how the words went with the actions of the plastic bag. The film crew did the very best job they could do at making the bag seem alive. The shots of the bag in all the different places were baffling, underwater especially, absolutely beautiful camera work.
I also really liked the use of the depth of field in the beginning of the film with the groceries moving down the little grocery treadmill. The one thing I didn't get was the horses. Why, what was the need for the horses, they reminded him of his maker's beasty. Maybe it was just showing his constant thought of her, that's my interpretation I guess.
I really enjoyed this film. The shots and locations they used were remarkable: the opening scene at the beach, the scene at the landfill, the shots of rural areas, the underwater shots, etc. This film was easy to watch because it was so visually captivating, which a story about a plastic bag's journey to the ocean must be in order to keep people's attention.
I also thought the foreign accent of the narrator added to the story. For me, it helped create the feeling that the bag was lost or wandering, not knowing where it was or where it was going. The narrator's accent caused me to believe that the bag was unfamiliar with its surroundings. I thought the story was great, and would have been great had the narrator had an American accent, but the addition of the foreign accent added so much more to the story.
It is a very creative short film. This film makes the plastic bag like a emotion creature using anthropomorphism. Also the plastic bag has strong and rich personalities. There are two shots I like the most. One is the plastic bag is moving in a white road beside green trees. Another one is the plastic bag plays with another red one. It shows how sweet and without sorrow and anxiety. And I like the music too.
This short film was strangely captivating. Even though the whole story revolved around a plastic bag, I wasn't bored at any time throughout the film. The most fascinating part of the story was the way that the narrator made the bag feel like it had human emotions and went through situations that were relatable to humans. From a technical standpoint, the camerawork was excellent. Their use of depth of field and perspective helped to give emotion to the inanimate object of the plastic bag. Lastly, the way that they were able to make the bag flip and float through the air was really cool to see. I'm sure that it must have taken incredible patience to get the shots they wanted, with something so random as the way the bag drifted through the wind.
Bags do not have emotions, they do not talk nor do they have a sense of humor. These were the preconceived thoughts that I had before watching the short film. Now I am not sure what to think. The narrator was able to redefine how I looked at a seemingly inanimate plastic bag. The story brought to life the bag, the emotions, the feelings of love and regret. The narrator made me cheer for the bag and its flight to it's promised land.
The sound matched perfectly with the video, and vice versa. The narration explained the journey of the bag, and how it felt each time it was snagged, or hampered by water, wind, or tree. Nothing would have prepared me for this film. The shots and voice were inspirational, and compelled me to travel more in my lifetime. The shots of the plastic bag were spot on. The dedication the team must have taken to film the different scenes is fantastic. The beach, field, trees, house, and city area must have taken a couple of days of filming, if not more. Overall this short film was interesting, but certainly not my favorite so far.
Loved this film, the director almost makes you jealous of the little guy. he got to see more things in this film than most people ever get to. the scene where he was finding his maker was wonderfully done. it was like he was learning to be independent without even realizing it. the bag has a real personality, i was really worried when i saw that it was 18 min long but i was never bored for a minute. I really enjoyed this film overall.
Wow, this film was so good for being a narrative. And the cinematography was just perfect. I totally agree with Aleks about how long it must have taken to get the bag in the right spot at the right time when dealing with nature, but that’s what makes this film even better. The whole concept of a plastic bag being the center of attention gave it a twist for the audience. The voiceover for the bag had a different accent that I could not seem to understand. Since the first scene was shot at the beach, it somewhat sounded like Sebastian talking from The Little Mermaid.
There were just some things that seemed off to me, even though the things I do may not be what others do as well. Usually when I have a plastic bag I don’t use or keep it every day. At my parents’ house and my dorm, we have a place where we put most of the plastic bags. We will mostly use them for the little trashcans we have lying around, even though we should probably recycle them. And what was up with her using a bag for the dog’s food? I mean, she lived in a decent house yet didn’t have a scoop for the dog’s food? Weird. I actually thought she was going to keep the bad after she picked up her dog’s poop but she did what I would have done; throw it away!
The story line was put together really well and the score went with it perfectly. It was nice that Ramin Bahrani captured different types of weather in this. The monologue in this was outstanding and seemed a bit poetic. I really liked the words chosen and the ending was a very realistic ending. Because I is seriously impossible for a bag to find its “creator” I am happy it ended the way it did. I am pretty sure the next time I see a plastic bag I will always think of this film.
I throughly enjoyed the short film "Plastic Bag." I think the best individual part of the film was the imagery and locations. I found the way the shots were set up to be beautiful, particularly the beach and underwater scenes.
I also found the personification of the bag to be creative, interesting and unique. I had thought about doing a "life of an inanimate object" film, but I had never thought to let the object be the narrator. I found this to be very interesting and quirky, and I think it really added to the film. I almost felt an emotional connection to the bag, which I did not think would happen when I started the film. Overall, I thought this film was fantastic both story-wise and shot-wise.
The images in this film were beautiful. I can't imagine how the director thought to do a story on a plastic bag, but Ramin Bahrani did an amazing job at it. I never thought that I would feel bad for a plastic bag, but Ramin did a great job at it. Excellent story and the shots made it even better.
I really, really loved this short. I have always thought about doing a project like this (seeing life through the eyes of an inanimate object). Seeing this film has really inspired me to actually go through with it. The shots used were really amazing! Surprisingly, I found myself feeling sympathetic toward the bag. The director really did a great job with this film, especially since he didn't have a lot to work with in the first place. Very creative idea.
