I thought this short film was a bit silly. It was funny at first, but half-way through I lost interest. I think that the sexual consent form was a cool idea, but they could have done better. I also thought the lawyers were better actors than the younger couple.
This short was hilarious and completely broke the stereotypical concept of sex. Jason Reitman is known for breaking stereotypes, and this short is no exception.
I thought the plot was funny and the introduction of the lawyers was an unexpected twist. The lack of scenes was also a plus. The lawyers and the two main characters in my opinion were all good actors. The non-verbal emotions and movements made by the two only expanded on what the subject the lawyers were talking about. There seemed to be no wide angle shots but only over the shoulder shots.
Overall I believe this is my second short story, my first is still about the city in the desert.
This was a very unique short film. It was very funny and quirky and definitely took on a very controversial topic in a light-hearted way. Girls not giving men consent for sexual relations in recent years has come up in the news, especially with celebrities, and I think the fact that Reitman took this topic head on is what makes this film so unique.
I really liked the acting, the lawyers did a good job at seeming professional but also taking on the emotions and opinions of the young college students when discussing the consent form. Dialogue seemed like the most important aspect to this film and they knocked that out of the park. I wonder what article 20 is.
The cinematography was nothing too special, but for this film idea, it didn't have to be. The main scene was just in the one place for a short amount of time, so I don't expect any beautiful shots like the last film we watched about the desert. Also, the cherry on top for this film was the girl at the end, and the guy's face, classic.
Great concept, made for a very funny little short.
Doesn’t seem to be much to be said here. Nothing particularly unique about the cinematography or editing, the acting is a bit over the top at times, but it suits the film. Realism certainly isn’t a goal here.
Nonetheless, I certainly enjoyed this film. The dialogue was great, and the twist at the end was a brilliant way to end. I’ll never look at lawyers the same way.
Very funny, kept me entertained throughout the whole thing. the cinematography was perfect for the what took place. as if the couple were in a lawyers office instead of the bedroom. the comedy tied in well with the the legal jargon and everything tied in well. the twist at the end was very funny too.
Very thoughtful, brilliant way to argue what the love and make love is. The story is funny. With the two shots's opening, and later two shots of client and lawyer talk to each other. Not too many action in this short movie. I like the ending. When I saw another girl was coming to the room, i think the director is kinda of ironic and against this consent. He wants us to know the love and everything else could be lawed but that may not be love. The love is a nature from human's heart not the law on paper
This was a very clever short. The best part of it was definitely the satirical plot, poking fun at the idea of sexual consent. The way the two lawyers discussed it like a business deal, making compromises and leveraging things to get the deal they wanted, made for a very funny plot. Also, it seemed as if the two lawyers were speaking the young couple's thoughts; reacting instantly to the other lawyer's proposals, and immediately interpreting their clients feelings. Seeing the witty dialogue by the lawyers, while the couple laid there just staring at each other in silence was an interesting dichotomy. Also, the twist at the end was totally unexpected and quite funny. Technically speaking, the cinematography was rather simple; just a few basic shots, and minimal lighting. This works just fine for this film though, because it is not the visual elements that are the focus of the short. Instead the attention is on the quick and witty dialogue.
This short was very entertaining and funny to me. Right when I read the title I was thinking, “Oh boy what’s gonna go on here!” and then BAM! her lawyer comes out. There was no way I would have thought that the male’s lawyer was going to pop up too. It was really smart to have opposite sex as the lawyer, which would make things work out more evenly. It was also good to have the vignette effect for the lawyers, since they were wearing black suits. This short is probably the most brilliant one I have, and will, ever see/n in my life. The comedy was great because they were talking about a serious topic. It was appropriate yet a little out there at the same time. The only thing that didn’t make me laugh was at the very end, because it was a little too awkward for me, but maybe that was the point. The main girl’s facial expression was exactly how mine was. Also, the male actor seemed even creepier when he gave that, “well why not?” look.
I really enjoyed this short. I typically enjoy well-done satires, and this one did not disappoint. I also found the topics of sexual consent and relationships between men and women to be very relevant today, with the current gender equality debate going on in the U.S right now. The shots seemed plain, with very few action shots, but I thought this was acceptable for the storyline. I thought the script was witty and well-written, and I thought the actors did a great job - especially the lawyers. Overall, I thought the short was very well done, and is definitely one of my favorites that we viewed in this class.
I thought that this short was very silly, but not in a bad way. I really enjoyed the lawyers going back and forth, and I also enjoyed the facial expression's of the main girl. I also particularly enjoyed the simple shots of the short. There was nothing crazy, just simple shots. Very well written and pretty funny.
I thought it was a pretty funny short. The cinematography didn't really stand out to me as much as the overall story did. "Consent" was well-written and well-performed. I especially loved the actors who played the lawyers. I'm a sucker for comedies that make fun of a serious topic, so maybe my review is biased, but whatever. The humor of this short film reminded me of "In God We Trust", which I later realized was written by the same person. Anyway, I enjoyed the short film. The shots weren't amazing, but with comedies, it's the content that gets the audience's attention.
